Toluene is a colourless, flammable, non-corrosive liquid with a benzene-like odour. It is insoluble in water and soluble in acetone, absolute alcohol, ether, chloroform, benzene, petroleum ether, glacial acetic acid, and carbon disulphide.
Applications
Toluene is a common solvent, able to dissolve paints, paint thinners, silicone sealants, cleaning agents and inks. It is also used in the synthesis of many organic chemicals.
