Blue Steel Primer (BLSTPR)
Description
Blue Steel Primer is a water-based, non-flammable rust converter primer for steel. Suitable for many industries including marine, and oil and gas.
Blue Steel Primer is an outstanding rust treatment which converts problematic rust into a tough adherent oxide layer and leaves behind a permanent seal against oxygen, water and other corrosive species such as salts. Suitable for steelwork maintenance jobs on ships, offshore oil platforms, pipelines, pylons, bridges and rust control on cars and caravans.
With exceptional durability for the toughest rust prevention tasks, blue Steel Primer gets right to the heart of the problem for highly effective maintenance.
Note: Blue Steel Primer is also known as Navy Steel Rust Converter and Navy Steel Rust Primer
Features and Benefits
• Removes the need for costly shot blasting.
• Proven value for money. Extends the lifespan of paint systems.
• Can be applied in damp and humid conditions.
• Tested and proven in the North Sea and further afield.
• Coverage rate (approx.): 12m2 per Litre.
Applications
Remove any loose, flaky rust to expose a sound substrate for coating. Apply Blue Steel primer with a brush or roller in thin, even coats. A chemical reaction between the blue steel primer and rust takes place and the coating will change from creamy white to blue/black.
Full reaction time is 24 hours depending on ambient conditions and the thickness of the rust layer. A second coat is recommended after 8 hours. Water-based topcoats can be applied after 8 hours and solvent based topcoats after 24 hours. One coat can last from 6 months to 2 years, two coats will last up to 5 years, dependent on how severe the conditions are.
